It's April in Atlanta and we've already moistened our palletes with the spring festivals around town, but none quite kicks off the season like the Sweetwater 420 Fest taking place this weekend at Centennial Olympic Park!
Below are our top tips for making the most of the festival in downtown whether you're going for one day or all three!
What's on your feet?
Take a gander at the weather forecast before heading down to the Park. Last year's rain debacle made all three days a mudfest. Flip flops were left scattered, people were going barefoot - but the smart ones all had all out rain boots. Friday's forecast holds some scattered showers which may wet the grounds for night one. Even though Saturday and Sunday look picture perfect, the lawn of the park still may be a mushy and unfriendly for those opting to go with open-toed shoes. You may laugh at the five-finger-toe-shoe wearing festival goer, but he may be laughing at you when you wore those white vans to 420fest 😉
Be Smarta, Take Marta
Traffic is going to be chaotic down by the Park, and your best bet is going to be to take Marta. For $2.50 one way, leave your worries about a DD at home, and ensure your entire party gets home safely. Use the GWCC/Philips Arena and Peachtree Center Stations for a quick less than half-mile walk to and from the park.
This year the festival has set up a Bike Valet program as part of its green initiatives to get those two-wheeling transporters special placement and a quick and seamless entry/exit. With all the routes on the beltline, getting to the festival is just a short pedal away!
Expedite your entry into the festival by registering your wristband online and be sure to pair it with a credit card for cashless payments thorughout the festival. Nothing beats not losing any cash and getting in and out of the beer line as quickly as possible and back to dancing the night away. Visit the Sweetwater 420fest site to activate your wristband
Familiarize yourself with New Music
Spend some time on the ride down taking a look at the schedule and plotting out you and your group's plan for catching music. Don't be afraid to try new artists. Those acts you've never heard of really may just be the best performances of the weekend. Hate to be the one who missed them because you were at mainstage all three nights.
Eat your Heart Out
You're likely already familiar with Sweetwater's extensive list of amazing beer that will be in full force at the festival, be sure to pair those along with the massive selection of Food vendors and trucks set up throughout the park. Last year we were privileged to have met the owners of Bhojanic backstage while noshing on their legendary samosas. The HoneyPot VIP area has an additional selection of food vendors with shorter lines and a diverse variety to suit even the pickiest tastebuds. Don't forget to top up your writsbands with payment for easy and quick access to food and beverage vendors.
Catch some Comedy and Cornhole
One of the hidden gems people quickly forget about while attending a music festival is all of the additional fun that can be had in the park. The Comedy lineup on hand Friday and throughout the weekend is definitely not to be missed! Last year we were sitting at the Comedy tent at 4:20pm on Saturday and were pleasantly surprised with a treat.
In addition to the comedy, Mellow Mushroom is sponsoring an art mural that will certainly garner some well deserved attention. There are also artisans and unique jewelers that will have their work on display.
Saturday GasSouth is back sponsoring their annual Cornhole Tournament. Try your hand at one of the south's most competitive sports, best played with a heady brew in hand.
After the Party it's the After Party

Promote ATLanta Southern Hospitality
Last year we met folks from all over the Carolinas, Florida, and even Canada who had come to experience Sweetwater 420fest. Promote the Southern Hospitality by sharing some insight about good eats, great acts and all that our grand city of Atlanta has to offer with a smile!
