Are you Kurios?

Are you Kurios?

Are you Kurios?

unnamedI love a good show just as much the next person, but Cirque shows are my favorite which is why I get school girl giddy the moment I know they're coming into town. That big blue and yellow tent has been going up for weeks now and I can see it each day from my office in Atlantic Station (19th Street Dental. Ask for Jillian. I'll clean yo' teeth!) This year's show, Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities had my interest since the moment I first heard about it. Though it first premiered in Canada in 2014 and has been touring major cities since, this is our first taste of it in Atlanta.

The steampunk vibes and 19th century influences had me excited all the way down to my core. So you can imagine how thrilled I was to be seeing it on opening night. Oh and did they not disappoint! The acts were completely awing as always with artists pushing their bodies to the limits on the trapeze or the contortionists literally bending themselves to what is beyond the breaking point for us mere mortals, but the story line, the costumes, the décor, that's what pushed this one to the top of the list for me.

unnamed-3A 19th century inventor creates a machine that travels to an alternate dimension where the world of reality is truly turned upside down. This alternate world is full of so many magical things you'll be at sensory overload before the first act is even through. There's so much awesomeness from the steampunk costumes of the cast to the Edison bulbs and phonograph props and the music that really ties it all together. Kurios really stood out to me because it displayed so much artistic greatness, acts not only displaying the strengths of the human body but of the mind as well. It is now amongst my favorites and you can bet I'll be trying to see it again. Trust me, you don't want to miss this one and since they're in town until May 8th there's still time to catch a show. In the meantime, take the quiz here to see which character you'd be in Kurios. I got Klara. I'd rock that alpha wave receiving hoop skirt any day!
